Kanakadhara Stotram Story
Adi Shankara has heartily prayed for a lady and said the beautiful and wonderful Sanskrit hymn. And this hymn has become very popular as Kanakadhara Stotram.
Adi Shankara’s parents were blessed by the Hindu god Shiva to have an intelligent child. Adi Shankara started to go to Gurukula (An ancient Indian school) as a young kid.
Kanakadhara Stotram by Adi Shankara Helped a Poor Lady
As a student of Gurukula, he had to visit houses and receive alms. This had been the system of Hindu Gurukula system.
But one day, when Shankara visited a poor woman’s house. And she did not have anything to give him as alms. She searched everywhere at her house because she did not want Shankara to leave her house without anything.
So, after searching a lot, she found some gooseberries that were a little bit dry and not fresh. But she gave it to Shankara and said that she had only that much.
Shankara Sang Kanakadhara Hymn to Please Goddess Laxmi
By seeing the selfless attitude of lady Shankara started to he poured out his heart which came out as a powerful divine hymn in praise of Goddess Laxmi.
Then Goddess Laxmi poured gold gooseberries on the hut of that poor lady. So, the pour and blessing from Laxmi are known as Kanaka Dhara.
So, this is the story behind the Kanakadhara Stotram or hymn. As I’ve shared the whole hymn of 21 stanzas here you too can recite this regularly.
